Our Journey

Want to know how it all began? Keep scrolling to journey with us through the last decade of our relationship.

2015

The cat is out of the bag — we actually met on Tinder in 2015! Averi originally swiped left on Jamie...oops.

2017

At the beginning of 2017, we traveled to South Korea to celebrate Jamie's 28th birthday. The trip felt especially meaningful, since Jamie's very first message to Averi on the dating app had been about her study abroad experience in Seoul. Returning together made it a full-circle moment for us.

2019

2019 was a rollercoaster, but we found moments of joy amidst the chaos. That year, Jamie turned 30… and Averi became obsessed with houseplants.

2021

Although he received his offer letter the year prior, the pandemic meant that Jamie couldn’t start at Delta until 2021. That July, we flew down to Atlanta for his wing pinning ceremony.

2023

You could say 2023 was an especially Rome-antic year for us because we finally got engaged! Jamie brought Averi back to where it all started in Italy and bent the knee on Palatine Hill, overlooking the Colosseum.

2025

Turns out we couldn’t resist gathering with our favorite people, so we decided to have a celebration after all! 2025 may have been taken over by wedding planning, but we still made time for adventure. A few of the highlights included a family trip to Iceland and finally traveling to Vietnam together after nine years of dating.

2016

After discovering that Jamie lived in Michigan, not Minnesota, we decided to remain just friends. Despite this, we talked nearly every day for seven months. In March of 2016, we gave things a chance and finally went on our first date. We became an official couple in May, and by July, we were off on our first international trip together — to Italy!

2018

2018 was a year full of milestones for us! Jamie bought his first home in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Averi turned 25. To celebrate, we went to Spain!

2020

2020 might have been unprecedented, but it did lead to us finally closing the distance! Averi moved to Michigan to live with Jamie “temporarily,” but little did they know that 6 months would turn into forever...

2022

A lot happened in 2022, but nothing was quite as memorable as bringing home our firstborn, Ponzu. Or so we thought! Six months later, we (and our last three brain cells) decided another golden retriever couldn’t hurt. So, we got Miso!

2024

What a whirlwind of a year! We bought a new house in the spring, and on 11/11/2024 — we eloped! Since Averi kept waffling (and pancaking) about whether she wanted a wedding ceremony, she and Jamie decided to just tie the knot in their neighbors’ living room before flying off to Portugal for a mini-moon.

2026

Pack your bags! We can’t wait to celebrate our marriage with you in Vietnam on January 4, 2026!

DON'T FORGET YOUR VISA

U.S. passport holders need a visa to enter Vietnam. Please allow adequate time for your visa application to be processed, as this can take anywhere from 3 to 7 business days or longer. You can apply for an e-visa here: https://evisa.gov.vn/

Other passport holders, please double check whether or not a visa is required for your stay in Vietnam.

TRAVEL FROM/TO THE AIRPORT

  • Ask your hotel about airport shuttle service if they have one.

  • Use the Grab App to order a ride (most recommended option if your hotel does not have an airport shuttle service).

  • Lastly you can take a Xanh SM/Mai Linh/Vinasun taxi at the airport. If taking a taxi, avoid private drivers who may solicit you as you exit the airport. You should only get into a branded taxi vehicle and please always ensure that the meter is on.

MONEY

  • Not every establishment will accept credit cards, so it's best to have some Vietnamese Dong (VND) on hand.

  • Options for obtaining Vietnamese Dong:

    • Via your bank before arrival

    • By bringing cash to exchange for VNDs.

    • Withdrawing cash at an ATM on arrival using your debit card (be aware of transaction fees). Please notify your bank prior to travels.

  • Where to exchange cash for VND cash:

    • The airport (high rates, not recommended).

    • At most hotels.

GRAB APP

  • We recommend you use the Grab App (the equivalent of Uber and Lyft) for transportation while you are in Vietnam.

VACCINES & MEDICAL

REQUIREMENTS

  • Do not drink tap water. Please use only bottled water for consumption. Tap water can be used to wash your face and brush your teeth, however.

  • As a reminder, the food here is delicious and generally safe, but travelers’ diarrhea is common when adjusting to a new country and its cuisine. Please prepare accordingly.

eSIM CARD

  • You can also purchase an eSIM card at the airport (we don't recommend this unless you are in a pinch) or at your hotel.

WHATSAPP GROUP CHAT

  • If you would like to join our WhatsApp Wedding Group Chat, please contact our wedding planner to be added.
